The Sacred Heart Gremlins beat Santa Fe 71-65 Saturday afternoon to win the championship game of the Class 2 District 14 Tournament at Sweet Springs.

“This is a good feeling,” said Gremlin head coach Steve Goodwin, in his 15th season at the Gremlin helm. “But really, we are looking forward to bigger and better things. We are looking to the future.”

The Gremlins, who won their sixth straight game, played Skyline Wednesday in the Class 2 sectionals at Clinton High School.

Malik Hackett led the 24-4 Gremlins in the district title game, with 29 points and five three pointers. Garrett Strange added 14 and Clint Spangler 10.

Sacred Heart made their eighth sectional appearance in Goodwin’s 15 years Wednesday at Clinton. Skyline won their district with a 72-61 win over Osceola in the district championship game. Skyline is 21-8 on the season.

The Gremlins have not lost since losing to the Cole Camp Bluebirds in the championship game of the Kaysinger Conference Tournament.

Sacred Heart finished second at both the Slater and Kaysinger Conference tournaments this season.
