Alice Willhite, 92, of Windsor, died late Friday evening, Feb. 15, 2013, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Kansas City.
She was born Nov. 5, 1920, in Maysville, the daughter of Elta Columbus Merritt and Chloe Alice (Bennitt) Merritt.
She worked in Kansas City, for the Briny-Marlin Garmet Factory, for over 20 years and later for the Camp Fire Girls for over five years. She enjoyed reading, playing bingo at the Windsor Senior Center, and “going to the boats.”
Survivors include a son, Lloyd Willhite, Windsor; a daughter, Mary Jane Dixon, Houston, Texas; a brother, Harvey Merritt, Alvarado, Texas; a sister, Menecy Wilson, Madison, Wisconsin; three grandchildren; a great-granddaughter and numerous nieces and nephews. Alice was preceded in death by a great-grandson, Michael Willhite; four brothers, Ralph Merritt; Roy O. Merritt; Vern Y. Merritt and Billy Lee Merritt; two sisters, Nellie King and Bessie Goodrich.
Graveside funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 19, at the Laurel Oak Cemetery, Windsor, with Rev. Peggy Eshelman officiating. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. before the service at the Hadley Funeral Home, Windsor. The family suggests contributions to the W.H.S. Master Scholarship Endowment Fund Michael Willhite Scholarship and contributions may be made in care of the funeral home.
