Melvin Ray ‘Bud’ Harrell

Melvin Ray “Bud” Harrell, 83, of Sedalia, died on Thursday, Feb. 7, 2013 at Bothwell Regional Health Center.

He was born on July 3, 1929 in Sedalia, son of Clarence and Ada Carver Harrell. He was married on Sept. 6, 1952 in Stover, to Lavera “Fritz” Semkin and she survives of the home. Bud graduated from Smith-Cotton High School in 1947. He worked as a machinist for the Missouri Pacific Railroad and then he worked for Rival Manufacturing Company. He then returned to the Missouri Pacific Railroad and retired in 1992. He was a member of the Sunrise Optimist Club and Sedalia Masonic Lodge No. 236 A.F. & A. M. He belonged to the Sedalia Good Sams Camping Club. He enjoyed fishing, camping and golf. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Besides his wife he is survived by one son, Greg Harrell (Judy) of Sedalia, one daughter, Diane Rothen (Jeff) of Lenexa, Kansas, one brother, Robert Harrell of Clinton, four grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother Jerry Harrell.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Feb. 11 at Ewing-Schutte-Semler Funeral Home with Rev. Jim Downing, Jr. officiating.

Serving as pallbearers were Alex Harrell, Andrew Harrell, Miles TaylorSteele, Brett Atkinson, Blake Atkinson, Steve Goldsmith. Honorary pallbearers were Charles Merk, Willis Charles, Kenneth Emery, Mike Albin and Steve Galliher. Burial was in Crown Hill Cemetery.
