JEFFERSON CITY, Mo— Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon takes the oath of office in front of his family as the 55th Governor of the State of Missouri before a crowd of friends, family and fellow Missourians at a ceremony held Monday, Jan. 14, shortly after noon.

Gov. Jay Nixon, left, is sworn in to his second term by Judge Rex M. Burlison, right, while Nixon’s sons Will, second from left, and Jeremiah watch.

Nixon, 56, defeated Republican challenger Dave Spence, a businessman from St. Louis in November’s general election. He is just the fourth Missouri governor ever to win two consecutive terms.

The ceremony followed a parade through Jefferson City streets that led to the Capitol. The Governor and First Lady earlier attended a church service at 8:30 a.m. at First Baptist Church.
