President Jane Kelley opened the business meeting at 6:30 p.m.
Shirley McCown offered prayer and devotion. Jane Kelly led the Pledge of Allegiance.
No minutes were presented, nor a Treasury report since it was our Christmas Party.
Marcie Husong, Social Worker at Parkview School thanked us for our generous donation to a family we adopted. We adopted a family that Marcie chose of a single mother with four children who attend Parkview School. Marcie relayed to us all the gifts of food clothing and toys she was able to purchase for the family with our $550 donation. She relayed how very appreciative the mother was.
Lori Haney from CASA thanked us for the items we donated to CASA. She told us many of the things CASA does for abused women.
Kathy Ulmer, VP of Democrat Central Committee reminded us about the Central Committee’s fundraiser on Jan. 24, will be held at the American Legion Hall, from 5-8 p.m. It will be a ‘Soup Cook-off’. Tickets will be $5. After tasting the different soups people will be encouraged to vote on their favorite soup at 25 cents per vote. Volunteers are needed to make different soups for the event.
Phyllis Domann relayed that the Johnson County Democrats will meet at Players Restaurant in Warrensburg on Jan. 21 at 7 p.m. to watch President Obama’s Inaugural Celebration.
Jane reminded us that we are in charge of the Community Café on Dec. 25 and that even though it is Christmas Day, it will be open. We will have enough volunteers and so will provide food and serve.
Our next meeting will be on Jan. 15, 2013 at Best Western at 6 p.m. We will not be charged if most people eat or at least order a beverage.
Jane drew names for the Poinsettias on the tables.
Treasurer Kathy Ulmer presented Jane with a Christmas gift from the club members.
