Frances Irene Shutt, of Grain Valley, formerly of Otterville, died peacefully early on Thursday, Dec. 27, 2012, at John Knox Village House in Lee’s Summit. She was 92.
She was born July 29, 1920, in Otterville, a daughter of the late Charles and Ruby Esther (Miller) Hopkins. On Jan. 10, 1945, in the chapel at Whiteman Air Force Base, she married Edward Shutt, who preceded her in death on Oct. 14, 1999.
She was raised and educated in Otterville, graduating from Otterville High School in 1938 and lived in Otterville most of her life. She was a homemaker who loved taking care of her family. She enjoyed keeping in contact with family and friends by writing letters and personal phone calls. Her strong will and fortitude allowed her to live at home until the age of 92, taking care of herself and all business matters. Her family would like to continue her legacy of putting others first, and never giving up.
She is survived by two daughters, Deanna Fluty, of Blue Springs, and Kay (Charles) Rothganger, of Weston; a sister, Bonnie McIntyre, of Otterville; four grandkids; nine great-grandkids; and three great-great grandkids. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Glen Hopkins and Charles “Bud” Hopkins; two sisters, Mary Evelyn “Pete” Kirschner and Shirley Bretall; and a granddaughter, Teri Stowell.
Funeral service will be noon, Saturday, Dec. 29, at McLaughlin Funeral Chapel with Wendy Minshall officiating. Visitation will be 11 a.m. until service time. Pallbearers will be Charles Rothganger, John Rothganger, Michael Fluty, Nick Bright, Christopher Nance and Bob Kirschner. Honorary pallbearers will be Bob Rothganger and Jeff McIntyre. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.
