Clarence Lee “Tuffy” Guthrie, 81, of La Monte, died on Saturday, Dec. 8, 2012 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born on Jan. 16, 1931, in La Monte, a son of E.D. and Anna (Taylor) Guthrie.

On Feb. 23, 1958, at the La Monte United Methodist Church, he was united in marriage to Marilynn Rice, who survives of the home.

He owned and operated Guthrie’s Service Station in La Monte for 60 years (Sept. 1, 1950 to April 1, 2010). He enjoyed mowing, being outside and attending ballgames at the La Monte High School. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and being involved in family events, especially the annual family river picnic. He was a member of La Monte United Methodist Church and La Monte American Legion Post 520. He served his country honorably in the US Army during the Korean Conflict.

Besides his wife, he is survived by three daughters, Paula Jean Zimmerman, Carla Sue Childers (Robbie Rennison) and Mary Lee Guthrie all of La Monte; five grandchildren, Brooke (Tim) Hughes-Muse, Cal (Courtney) Childers, Daniel Hughes (Crystal Whitworth), Brett (Tessa) Childers and Sydney Guthrie; five great grandchildren, Willow, Rowan, Cypress, Cree and Magnolia; one sister, Mary Hays of Sullivan, and one brother, George (Mary Lou) Guthrie of Lee’s Summit.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, William, Ernest and John Guthrie. 

Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, Dec. 13 at La Monte United Methodist Church with Rev. Gene Smith officiating.

Pallbearers will be Cal Childers, Daniel Hughes, Brett Childers, Robbie Rennison, Gene Trelow and Larry Peters.

Honorary pallbearers will be all of Clarence’s family and friends.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 12 at Rea Funeral Chapel, Sedalia.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are greatly appreciated to La Monte United Methodist Church in care of the funeral chapel.
