The La Monte FCCLA Chapter transformed the Oct. 16 Lady Vikings’ Conference volleyball game into a “Spike Cancer” game in order to raise awareness about Breast Cancer.

Various pink ribbon items were for sale as well as pink lemonade and ribbon shaped cookies. T-shirts representing the “Spike Cancer” theme and chances for a pink quilt made by the JH math class and the freshman FACS class were also available for purchase.

Plastic cups were distributed to the audience in between sets. These were donated by Orthopedic Surgeons, Dr. Kibuz and Dr. Edwards as well as Dr. Ed Kavanaugh, Orthodontist. The Venter Bros. Lawn Pros and the Jones Bros. Agri-Services donated funds to purchase pink items for the team players to wear. The soccer team participated in the event by spelling out the warning signs of cancer with the “CAUTION” acronym.

Overall, the event was successful and raised over $200 for cancer research. Submitted photo.
