County bridge work update from Commissioner Meehan

November 29, 2012

in Local

The dedicated men and women at the Pettis County Highway/Road and Bridge Department have been working hard all year to maintain and repair our 868 miles of road and 164 bridges. This year, in addition to normal maintenance and repair, they chipped and sealed over 80 miles of road.

With the financial assistance of the Missouri Department of Transportation we placed four bridges in the BRO 80/20 Match Program in 2011. The first bridge located on the east end of Higgins Road has been completed, as shown in the photo.

A second bridge located on the west end of Higgins Road is in the final stages of engineering and is scheduled for replacement in the Spring of 2013.

Construction bids for the third Bridge located on Garrison Road will be opened on Monday, Dec. 3, 2012. Construction on this bridge should begin before year end, subject to the weather, of course.

The replacement/construction of the bridge located on Quisenberry Road is moving along at an accelerated pace. The Commission has had the full cooperation of the local land owners, the design engineers, and the Missouri Department of Transportation. The county will advertise for construction bids on Thursday, Nov. 29 and a construction company will be selected on Dec. 21, 2012. Construction will begin shortly after, weather permitting.

In addition to these four bridges the County Commission approved the replacement of the deck on the bridge located on South Grand that was seriously damaged by fire this summer. The wood deck was replaced with concrete. –Submitted by Pettis County Presiding Commissioner John Meehan.
