The La Monte FCCLA Chapter hosted a Traffic Safety Awareness Day at their school on Oct. 5.

The day began with a Highway Patrol Presentation with their new video Permanent. The 7-12 grades then proceeded outside to view a “mock accident” that Deputy Bruce Banner coordinated. All of the emergency personnel were represented as they responded to the “mock accident” as if it were a real tragedy.

The students continued to the high school parking lot next where they competed as teams in a “Quick Click Challenge.” This is a race against time to determine the fastest team at buckling up in the car. The objective of this activity was to realize that it only takes a few seconds of your time to put on a seatbelt that could save your life.

The day concluded back in the gym for another assembly planned by the FCCLA members. The conclusion focused on teaching the dangers of texting and driving. Submitted.
