Sacred Heart Foundation has announced the addition of Liz Suter-Van Leer as its development director. In this capacity, Suter-Van Leer is responsible for leading the Foundation’s efforts to support the long-term growth and sustainability of Sacred Heart School, including reactivating the Campaign for Quality, the Foundation’s most significant fund-raising initiative.
Suter-Van Leer has spent the past 10 years providing business-to-business and consumer-driven media relations and public relations support for Osborn Barr, a St. Louis-based marketing and communications firm that specializes in agriculture and rural America. Prior to Osborn Barr, Suter-Van Leer served as the public relations and marketing assistant for the 2002 U.S. Women’s Open in Hutchinson, Kan. She also wrote, produced and was a broadcaster for commercial radio for more than five years. She received her degree in public relations with a marketing emphasis from Kansas State University, Manhattan.
Campaign for Quality was introduced in 1995 and ran as an annual fundraising effort until 2008. Since then, Sacred Heart Foundation has shifted its focus to play a key partnership role with Sacred Heart Church and the school in multiple capital campaigns. Funds generated through Campaign for Quality are equally divided, with 50 percent going into investments managed by the Foundation and 50 percent benefiting the immediate operational needs of Sacred Heart School.
“Timing is right to re-engage in the Campaign for Quality, and we’re excited to bring back this important initiative,” said Foundation President John Swearingen. “Liz’s passion and personal investment to see that quality, Catholic education is available to the Sedalia community is shared with the rest of our members. We look forward to having Liz — and the community — join us in this critical and deserving cause.”
Suter-Van Leer’s volunteer efforts in the Sedalia community include serving as co-chairperson with the Sedalia chapter of Missouri Right to Life. She also was one of the founding members of Journey for Hope, a 5K race created to offer fellowship, support and financial assistance to Missourians living with a Traumatic Brain Injury.
