Smith-Cotton’s Lady Tiger golf season came to an end Monday when Ali Bankovich and Ali Burkholder failed to qualify for the Class 2 State Golf Championships.

Bankovich, making her second trip to the high school golf post-season, shot a 105 to tie for 28th individually and Burkholder carded a 116 to tie for 35th individually at the Class 2 Sectional 3 Tournament at the Sedalia Country Club.

The top two teams and the top 12 individuals not on the top two teams advanced to next week’s Class 2 MSHSAA State Championship Golf Tournament.

West Plains won the team title to advance to state with a team score of 376. Lee’s Summit West finished second to also advance to state with a 380. Springfield Kickapoo finished third in the team standings with a 384 and Carthage was fourth with a 387.

Individuals had to shoot a round of 93 to make the state-qualifying cut.

Sun Young Jung of Springfield Glendale shot the medalist round with a 6-over-par 77 on the par-71 course. Team champion West Plains placed two players in the top three and three in the top 15. Lee’s Summit West had two players in the top 12.
