James Fred Haase, 72, of Sedalia died on Friday, Oct. 5, 2012 at Fair View Nursing Home.

He was born on June 6, 1940 in Marshall son of William F. and Lydia A Traugott Haase. James moved from Malta Bend to Green Ridge in 1946 with his family. He later moved to Sedalia with his mother in 1978. Haase had learning disabilities and later in life attended State Fair Community College in the Adult Education and Literacy Program. Early in life he did hay hauling and enjoyed working on radios. He attended and trained at the Sheltered Workshop in Sedalia. He worked toward obtaining a job at Missouri Pressed Metals where Gerald Harrellson was a job trainer. Missouri Pressed Metals and Gerald Harrellson gave James an opportunity in life to prosper and the family will always be greatful.  He was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church and was confirmed on June 10, 1962. He enjoyed Special Olympics where he participated in track, basketball and bowling.

He is survived by four nephews; Mike Curtis of Unionville, Missouri, David Curtis and his wife Renee of La Monte, Robert Curtis of Green Ridge and Mark Curtis and his wife Teri of Green Ridge, one niece: Mary Koester of Illinois, one sister: Joann Curtis of Sedalia, five great nephews and five great nieces, several great great nephews and nieces. He was preceded by his parents, one brother: Leonard Haase, one nephew: Leonard Haase, Jr., one great nephew: Timothy Curtis.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 10 at Our Savior Lutheran Church with Rev. Chris Kellogg and Officiant Andrew Tessone.

Serving as pallbearers will be Brian Curtis, Cody Curtis, Troy Curtis, Chad Curtis, Steven Curtis and Eric Schneider. Honorary pallbearers will be Ken Tilman, Jackie Stevens, Robbie Williams and Betty Brandt. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m.  Tuesday, Oct. 9 at Ewing-Schutte-Semler Funeral Home. Memorials may be given to Our Saviour Lutheran Church Radio Ministry. You may leave condolences online at ewingschuttesemlerfh.com.
