Martha Anne Harrelson, 71, of Green Ridge, died Saturday, Sept. 22, 2012, at her home.
She was born April 6, 1941, in Greenville, S.C., daughter of Arthur and Clara Davis McDevitt. She moved to Walnut, N.C. at age three, was raised in the mountains, and graduated high school there. She was a star basketball player and was well known in the district.
On Sept. 4, 1966, in Walnut, N.C., she married Gerald Leon Harrelson, who preceded her in death on Jan. 30, 2003. She was an Air Force wife for 20 years.
She moved to Green Ridge in 1977 and worked for Alcan Cable for several years, retiring in 2006.
Surviving are three daughters, Debra Harrelson Campbell and Lorinda Lee Harrelson, both of Lynchburg, Va.,, and Katherine Harrelson Sawford, of Green Ridge; three grandchildren, Ashley Anne Campbell-Moss, Haley Nicole Campbell Stockes and Gannon Matthew Sawford; a sister, Elizabeth Joiner, of Baton Rouge, La.; her very special and faithful companion and caregiver who never left her side, Larry Street; special friends and neighbors, Randy, Jan and Sunnie Magnuson; and nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a nephew.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, at Heckart Funeral Home, with Rev. Sandy Feeler officiating.
Casket bearers will be Randy Magnuson, Ken Bunker, Ken Tillman, Randy Scotten, Kelly Harding and Jeremy Harbison.
The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until service time Wednesday, at Heckart Funeral Home.
