Robert Wayne “Bob” Bishop died Aug. 22, 2012, at Four Seasons following an illness while receiving rehabilitative care preparing him to go home. He was diagnosed wth cancer in 2010.
On Feb. 26, 2012, he married his sweetheart of 24 years, Karen Isaac. She survives in the home.
Bob served his country during the Korean War Conflict in the Army Engineer Division and he was very grateful for the good health care provided at Harry S. Truman VA Hospital in Columbia.
He worked for Bill Greer Motors as a mechanic but was primarily a truck driver having worked for Castle Brothers, Albins and then he retired from Howard Ready Mix after many years. After retiring, he drove a school bus for Otterville School into his 70s. Many people will remember him for shoeing their horses and as a horse trainer/trader.
He is survived by three stepchildren from his previous marriage to” Bettie” Mettenburg Gardner Bishop in 1957: Frank Bishop, Sedalia, Steve (Patty) Gardner, Sedalia and Barbara Gardner-Bishop, Ashland and two stepchildren from his current marriage: Kristine (Victor) Kimery, Marshall and John E. (Sherrie) Stouffer, Marshall. There are nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. His little dog Puddles misses him, too.
He was preceded in death by his mother, father, three brothers and five sisters.
The body has been cremated. A private service for family and close friends will be held on Saturday, Sept. 29 at 2 p.m., followed by a sharing of stories and pictures until 4 p.m. There will be no food or drinks. Bring a lawn chair.
