Women’s Democrat Meeting of Sept. 19

The Sept. 19 Women’s Democrat Meeting was held at Golden Corral Restaurant.

President Jane Kelley opened the meeting at 7 p.m.

Shirley McCown offered prayer and devotion. Marguarite Ellis led the Pledge of Allegiance.

Secretary Charli Ackerman read the minutes from our last meeting in June. Approved.

Treasurer Sheryl VonHolten presented the treasury report. Approved.

President Jane Kelley read thank you notes from Wanda Monsees and from Ruth Franklin for their recent illnesses. Also a thank you note from Nathan Ackerman in appreciation as one of the recipients of our Women’s Democrat Scholarship.


Cookie Poole was present and has joined our Women’s Club.

The 4th Congressional District Club will hold their Fall Meeting on Sept. 29 at Heroe’s Restaurant in Warrensburg, starting at 9 a.m. It will be hosted by the Johnson County Democrat Club. Guest speakers will be Jane Van Sant and Gary Grigsby.

Larry Yunt, Democrat Central Committee Chairman, was our guest and reported that our Democrat Headquarters is coming along very well. It is located at 504 W 16th street. The Grand Opening will be Sept. 22 at 9 a.m. Everyone should be there by 8:30 a.m. Coffee, juice, donuts and fresh fruit will be served. It was discussed that each of our three Democratic Clubs should put in a third of the costs of the Headquarters. Marguarite Ellis motioned that our Women’s Club put in one third of the cost, Judy Ebers seconded. Approved.


Pam Doane asked if we could change our meeting time in the future to 6 p.m. instead of 7 p.m. Since we will continue holding our meetings at Golden Corral, those that want to eat can be there by 5 p.m. to eat and still start the meeting at 6 p.m. Judy Ebers motioned that we change our start time for our meetings to 6 pm, Marguarite seconded. Approved.

Jane Kelley asked if everyone was okay having our Christmas party meeting at Golden Corral on Dec. 18. Cookie Poole motioned that we do, Sheryl VonHolten seconded. Approved.

Our meeting next month in October will coincide with a major event in Sedalia on the 16th. Discussion to change our October meeting to the 18th instead. Donna Heembrock motioned to change next month’s meeting to the 18th, Marguarite Ellis seconded. Approved.

Discussion about giving each of our local, state and congressional candidates a donation from our club. Marguarite Ellis motioned that we give each candidate $300, Pam Doane seconded. Approved.

Meeting adjourned at 8:20 p.m.
