RV crash claims life of North Carolina man

A North Carolina man was killed on Sept. 11 in Pettis County when the driver of an RV crashed into a tractor trailer at Highway 65 and Route D.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 64-year-old George D. Martin was the driver of a Coachman RV traveling southbound on 65 when it struck a 1998 Peterbilt tractor trailer driven by 77-year-old Frank C. Higgins of Sweet Springs. Higgins was also southbound on 65 and was in the process of making a right turn onto Route D when the crash occurred.

The RV overtook and struck the Peterbilt. Martin, of Wilmington, North Carolina, was pronounced dead at the scene by Pettis County Coroner Robert Smith. A passenger in the RV, 60-year-old Joan D. Martin, also of Wilmington, North Carolina, reportedly  suffered moderate injuries and was transported to Bothwell Regional Health Center. Higgins was reportedly uninjured, according to the Patrol’s report. The crash was reported at 3:35 p.m. on Tuesday.
