S-C Soccer Invitational starts Friday

The Smith-Cotton soccer Tigers won’t be boarding the old yellow school bus bound for the Lee’s Summit Bronco-Tiger Invitational to begin the 2012 season.

Instead, Coach Ethan Weller’s Tigers will host the six-team, Smith-Cotton Invitational starting Friday night, Aug. 24 at Susie Ditzfeld Memorial Soccer Field and Clover Dell Park.

S-C will be in the in the three-team Black Pool with Oak Grove and Harrisonville. The three-team Gold Pool is made up of Grain Valley, Belton and St. Paul’s.

S-C will meet Oak Grove at 4:15 Friday at Susie Ditzfeld and will take on Harrisonville at 8:15 p.m. Friday.

The Gold pool will play their pool matches Friday, Aug. 24 at Cover Dell.

The tournament schedule was revised Aug. 15 when St. Joseph Benton pulled out of the event due to low numbers, according to S-C Athletic Director Rob Davis. Harrisonville became the replacement team for Benton.

All trophy matches will be played Saturday, Aug. 25 at Susie Ditzfeld. The two teams finishing third in their pools will play for third place at 10 a.m. Teams finishing second in their pools will battle at noon and the top teams in the pool will play in the championship match at 2 p.m.
