‘Hand-to-Hand’ donates to health center

August 7, 2012

Hand to Hand Outreach donated several hand-made items to the Pettis County Health Center. The items were given to new and expecting mothers at the community baby shower held on Aug. 1.

The newly formed Hand to Hand sewing and craft group consists of eight volunteers who make fine motor skills teaching aides for school teachers, care packages for fire victims, and also make items for CASA and Lighthouse Recovery. The group also conducts crafting classes at various nursing homes and residential care facilities.

Brittany Buehrlen and Mary Kindle, both Americorps VISTA”s, who founded the group in March of 2012, work closely with volunteer leader Josephine Sei.

Both Buehrlen and Kindle are very pleased with the success of the group and are inspired by Ms. Seiʼs commitment and hard work. Although Ms. Sei struggles with a genetic disease affecting her eyesight and muscle coordination, she works tirelessly to recruit and train new volunteers to satisfy the needs of our community.

If you are interested in volunteering, please call Josephine at (660) 221-6529.
