Martha Frances Deck, 85, of Sedalia, died Monday, July 30, 2012, at Bothwell Regional Health Center.
She was born Jan. 10, 1927, in Beaman, a daughter of John Cee and Mabel Elizabeth Edwards Brown. On Jan. 21, 1945, in Sedalia, she married Billy G. Deck, who preceded her in death on Jan. 13, 1970.
Mrs. Deck worked in the office at the family business, Brown Supply Company, which later became Central States Tool. After retirement, she was a hostess at the Old Missouri Homestead and McGrath’s. She was a member of BPW and the Bothwell Regional Health Center Auxiliary. She enjoyed reading and donating her time in the schools to help the children learn to read. She also volunteered in the office at the police department. She enjoyed traveling and spending time with her family and friends.
She was a very caring and loving person, always putting others before herself. Her strength was an inspiration to many.
Surviving are two daughters, Sharon Gwiazdowski, and her husband, Jim, of Ballwin,, and Jackie Schudy, of Independence; five grandchildren, Joe, Stacie, Farrah, Vanessa and Dayn; three great-grandchildren, Will, Sloan and Kayleigh; a sister, Cathy Smith, and her husband, Dick, of Lee’s Summit; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, John E. “Bud” Brown.
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 4, at Heckart Funeral Home, with the Rev. Jim Downing officiating.
Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Child Safe or the Boys and Girls Club.
