Travelers pull away in middle innings, hold on for 11-8 win

The Sedalia Travelers Post 642 scored four runs in the fifth and three more in the sixth to lead 11-2 and held on for an 11-8 win over the Lee’s Summit Outlaws in the semifinals of the AAA Zone 2 Tournament Saturday afternoon at Dey Field at Liberty Park Stadium.
Lee’s Summit battled back against Traveler relief pitcers Dalton Dull and Austin Bullerd with three runs in the eighth and three more in the ninth.
Colin Nolting threw seven innings for the Travelers to pick up the win. He allowed three runs, six hits and struck out four Dull retired two batters in the eighth, but gave up two runs. Bullerd pitched 1 1/3 innings, giving up three runs and two hits.
Dalton Christian went 3-for-4 and Zach Bishop had three hits in four trips to the plate to lead the Travelers’ offense. Nolting and Dull both went 2-for-4.
The Travelers improved to 20-32 on the season.
In the other zone semifinal Saturday morning, Independence Post 21 scored five runs in thee fifth to tie the game and scored the game, winner in the bottom of the ninth to beat Fike Post 499 of Blue Springs 7-6 to advance to the winner’s bracket final against Sedalia Saturday afternoon.
In loser’s bracket games Friday evenng, Fike took on St. Joseph Post 11 and Rod’s Sports A’s met the the Lee’s Summit Outlaws. Photos by Randy Kirby, Sedalia News Journal.
