Floyd Lawrence Smeltser, Jr., 68, of Smithton, died Thursday, June 21, 2012, at Bothwell Regional Health Center. He was born on Oct. 21, 1943, in Keokuk, Iowa, a son of Floyd Lawrence and Mary Alice (Pruett) Smeltser, Sr.
On Aug. 21, 1993 in Sedalia, he was united in marriage to Kathy Petree Garner, who survives of the home.
He loved gospel music and enjoyed fishing and gardening. He barbered for 35 years and has had a valid barber license for 50 years. He worked and retired from the US Post Office as a rural letter carrier. He was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church where he sang in the church choir.
Besides his wife and his father, he is survived by one son, Tim Smeltser of Sedalia; one daughter, Deitra Logsdon and her husband James of Wentzville; two step daughters, Tabbetha Atyeo and her husband Brandon of Harrogate, England and Bobby Houston and her husband Kyle of Sedalia; one niece/stepdaughter, Cortney Wiedermann and her husband Tim of Olivehurst, Calif.; two sisters, Pam Wright and her husband Wayne of Wayland, and Kathy Carr and her husband Mike of Keokuk, Iowa; two brothers, Roger Smeltser and his wife Kitty of Hamilton, Ill., and Steve Smeltser of Wayland.
He was predeceased by his mother; one sister, Debbie Smeltser; one brother, David Smeltser and one step daughter, Brittney Garner.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, June 25 at Bethlehem Baptist Church on Anderson School Road, with Pastor Corbett Martin officiating.
Pallbearers will be Randy Ditto, Scott Petree, John Cover, Rick Micken, Kyle Houston and Chuck Cox.
Honorary bearers will be Billy Goff, Bill Klein, Wayne Hassler, Robert Cranfill, Phillip Monsees, Steve Dunham, Wally Self, Justin Brown and Charlie Bultemeier.
Memorial contributions may be given to the family in care of Rea Funeral Chapel.
