‘Decoration Day’ celebrated at Crown Hill

Richard Barnier, a 2012 Smith-Cotton High School graduate, plays Taps at the annual Memorial Day Ceremony at Crown Hill Cemetery on Monday, May 28 at the “Avenue of the Flags” on Veterans Drive in Sedalia. Guest speaker for the occasion was LTC Darren P. Fitz Gerald, professor of Military Science  at Wentworth Military Junior College.
Smith-Cotton JROTC members raised and lowered the American flag. VFW Post 2591 supplied a 21-gun salute. The “laying of the wreaths” part of the ceremony honored those who served in WWI, WWII, Korea, Vietnam and other conflicts. Emmett Fairfax emceed the event, while 40&8 Commander Tony Gallagher provided the invocation and Chaplain Jim Gaertner gave the benediction. The event was sponsored by American Legion Post 16.
