Winds blow jumpers off course

May 25, 2012

in Local

Three members of the 101st Airborne ‘Screaming Eagles’ speed towards Sedalia before deploying their parachutes on Thursday morning, May 24. Their landing target was the practice field at Smith-Cotton Junior High, but excessive winds had other ideas for the jumpers, who eventually landed near Crown Hill Cemetery on the north edge of Sedalia.

The presentation was promoting the annual ‘Salute to Veterans’ at Columbia Regional Airport this Memorial Day Weekend. The appearance was the first in Sedalia since 2010, as the 2011 performance was canceled right after the May 25 tornado that struck the southern part of Sedalia.
