Dr. Marsha K. Drennon has announced her intention to retire as president of State Fair Community College.
Drennon made the announcement Monday in executive session at the college’s Board of Trustees meeting; the retirement is effective June 30, 2013.
When Drennon, 63, steps down, she will have led the college for 10 years. She said she is proud of the progress the college has made during her tenure.
“State Fair Community College is a tremendous asset to west central Missouri,” said Drennon. “I take great pride in the fact that we provide quality educational programs and services to our students to help them meet their educational and personal goals, and as a result we have seen remarkable enrollment growth in the last several years.”
Since taking over as president, Drennon has led the college in the development of a comprehensive strategic plan and presided over its $8 million “Power to Transform” capital campaign, which enhanced the college’s allied health programs, provided more student scholarships and built the Heckart Science and Allied Health Center.
She also led the college in its implementation of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools (NCA) Academic Quality Improvement Program (AQIP) as the college’s accreditation and continuous quality improvement process. In February, the college underwent a successful comprehensive evaluation by a team representing the Higher Learning Commission of the NCA.
During Drennon’s presidency, the college has expanded programming and services throughout its 14-county service area, including online and at the Lake of the Ozarks and Clinton. She also has established relationships with private and public organizations, which have provided diversified funding resources and new opportunities for students.
“Dr. Drennon has done much to enhance our visibility, the aesthetic quality of our campus and our reputation as a center of learning that focuses first and foremost on its students,” said Board of Trustees President Gary Noland. “Those of us on the board are very appreciative of her contributions to SFCC and the communities we serve, and it is only with deep regret that we accept her decision to retire next year.”
Drennon has 37 years of experience in higher education administration. Before coming to SFCC she served as vice president for institutional advancement and executive director of the San Juan College Foundation at San Juan College in Farmington, N.M., where she had worked since 1999.
She received a Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership in 1999 and a Master of Arts in Educational Administration and Leadership in 1996 from the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque.
Drennon is SFCC’s fourth president in its 44-year history.
