Lester ” Ben” K. Chiles, 82, of Sedalia, died Saturday, April 7, 2012, at the Good Samaritan Care Center in Cole Camp
He was born Aug. 25, 1929, in Fonda, Iowa, a son of Elmer and Artie Mae Davis Chiles. On Aug. 25, 1948 he married Mable E. Wehmeyer in Sedalia, who survives of the home.
He was baptized and a member of Waldo Baptist Church in Independence. He was a dairy farmer as well as a cattle farmer, where he raised mostly Black Angus. He drove a school bus for 21 years for the Morgan County School District and owned Ben’s Saw Shop in Versailles.
In addition to his wife surviving are a two daughters, Theresa Gerber (Doyle) of Sedalia and Carolyn Thomas (Robert “Slim”) of Houstonia; three grandchildren, Sally Beard (Robert) of North Pole, Alaska, Keith Thomas and Ariel Thomas both of Houstonia; four great-grandchildren, Cristina, Nicole, Kyle and Paige Beard; a brother; Elmer Chiles Jr. (Betty) of Florence. He was preceded in death by both parents.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, April 13, at Heckart Funeral Home with Pastor Rusty Smith officiating.
Casket bearers will be Keith Thomas, Robert Thomas, Doyle Gerber, Robert Beard, Kyle Beard and Ryan Smith.
Burial will be in Highland Sacred Gardens Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until service time Friday, April 13, at Heckart Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions are suggested to the donor’s choice.
