Mary Rupert

Mary Evelyn Rupert, 93, of Sedalia, died March 21, 2012, at Fairview Nursing Home, Sedalia. She was born on July 23, 1918, in Pike County, Ill., a daughter of Edward and Maude (Walton) Hillman.

On June 20, 1937, she was married to Charles David Rupert in the New Hartford, Ill., Christian Church. They celebrated 65 years together. Charles preceded her in death on, May 3, 2003.

She was a homemaker, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great great grandmother and was loved by all. She worked for a number of years at the Pittsfield Brown Shoe. She was a member of First Christian Church, Pittsfield, IL and also active at First Christian Church, Sedalia.  She was Girl Scout leader during the years her daughters were involved in Girl Scouts. She always had a lovely flower garden at the home and many people would drive by just to admire and enjoy. She and her husband did a lot of traveling. After her husband passed, she would spend part of the winters with her daughter, Ann in Sun City. She moved to Sedalia in 2004 to be near her family. While she was a resident of Winchester Meadows, she enjoyed playing cards and bingo with the ladies. When her sisters and husbands were alive, they spent many nights together playing games, eating and visiting. They were called the “six musketeers.”

She is survived by two daughters, Patti Howard (Bill) of Sedalia, and Ann Mordt of Sun City, Ariz.; six grandchildren, Mark Croxville of Troy, MO, Mindy Ochoa (Gregg) of Jefferson City, Mo., Christine Spalding of Troy, Mo., Tim Howard (Garianne) of Olathe, Kan., Mike Howard (Angie) of Rolla, Mo., Susanne Vielhauer (Jeff) of Kansas City, Kan.; a step grandson, Darryl Mordt (Daisy) of Troy, Mo.; 14 great grandchildren; one great great grandson; one sister, June Brokaw (Gawain) of Barry, Ill.; one brother in law, Gene Belford of Pittsfield, Ill.; one sister in law, Mae Rupert of Pittsfield, Ill., and many nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Virginia Dunham, two brother in laws, Paul Dunham and Walter Rupert and a sister in law, Charlene Bedlford.

The family will receive friends in Sedalia, from 3 to 4:30 pm, Saturday, March 24 at Rea Funeral Chapel. Prayer service will follow visitation, with Rev. Chad McMullen officiating.

Funeral service will be held Sunday, March 25 at 3 p.m. at Airsman-Hires Funeral Home, Pittsfield, Ill., with Pastor Michael Teneyck officiating. Family will receive friends in Pittsfield, one hour prior to service.

Burial will be in Pittsfield West Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Mark Croxville, Tim Howard, Mike Howard, Jason Howard, Gregg Ochoa and Jeff Vielhauer.

Honorary bearers will be Darryl Mordt, Jim Belford, Chris Califonte and Megan Ochoa.

Memorial contributions may be given to The First Christian Church, Sedalia or Pittsfield, Ill., or donor’s choice.
