Charlotte Kelly

Charlotte Ann Kelly, 78, Sedalia, died March 20 at the University of Missouri Hospital & Clinics in Columbia, Mo. Born July 14, 1933, to parents Paul and Marie Wirths Wiemholt of Sedalia, where she was raised. “Charlie” as she was affectionately known, was a 1951 graduate of Sacred Heart High School in Sedalia, where she was active in both school and church.

On Nov. 21, 1953, Miss Wiemholt married Clarence A Moon Jr., who proceeded her in death, on September 14, 1977. Charlotte and her husband were blessed with six children during their marriage. Their children, Kathy Perry of Sedalia, Pam and her husband Gary Ballard of Sedalia, Anthony Moon of Sedalia, Patrick and his wife Lisa Moon of Sedalia, Rebecca and her husband Jeff Cantrell of Green Ridge, and Lisa and her husband Derick Tagtmeyer of Overland Park, Kansas all survive her. Charlotte was a homemaker, accomplished seamstress and loved to dance.

On June 15, 1984, she married James Patrick Kelly of Sedalia, who proceeded her in death on April 7, 1997. Mrs. Kelly’s family grew to include three stepsons, Charles Kelly and his wife Lana of Hughesville, James Kelly and his wife Kim of South Carolina, and Steve Kelly and his wife Karen of Georgia, all of whom survive her.

Mrs. Kelly is also survived by her brothers, James and Richard Wiemholt, both of California, three sisters, Shirley Schieberl of Sedalia, Martha and her husband Wendall McKee of Boonville, and Carolyn and her husband John Gaydos of Arizona. She is preceded in death by her parents and sister Jeannie DesLaurier.

She was a very active member of St. Patrick’s Church, which included a membership of the Daughters of Isabella, charity work for Meals on Wheels, and the Bothwell Auxillary. She and Pat were avid square dancers, loved to travel, and donated to many charities. One of the highlights of her travels was a trip to Rome and the Holy Land.

Blessed with 18 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren, she will be remembered for her love of life and all of the lives she touched.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church with Father Jim Betzen C.P.P.S. officiating at 10 a.m., Friday, March 23. She will be laid to rest at Memorial Park Cemetary. Serving as pallbearers will be Nick Moon, Cole Tagtmeyer, Elliot Tagtmeyer, Luke Cantrell, Jake Cantrell and Caroline Kelly.

The family will receive friends at 6:30 p.m., with the Rosary at 8 p.m. on Thursday, March 22 at the Ewing-Schutte-Semler Funeral Home, 701 S. Osage, Sedalia.

Charlotte’s family suggests memorial contributions to St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in care of the funeral home.
