Frances Jewell Morris, 96, of Sedalia, died Wednesday, March 7, 2012, at Lincoln Community Nursing Home in Lincoln.
She was born Aug. 26, 1915, in Dresden, a daughter of the late Francis E. and Elva A. (Mixer) Romig. On Jan. 16, 1943, in Kansas City, Mo., she married Leo L. Morris, who preceded her in death on Sept. 21, 1968.
Mrs. Morris was raised and educated in Pettis County. She graduated as salutatorian of her class at LaMonte High School in 1933. She joined Dresden United Methodist Church when she was 11 years old and was a lifelong member of the church. She lived in Pettis County most all her life. She worked at Remington Arms at Lake City during World War II, and later worked at Town & Country Shoes for 30 years, retiring in 1975. She also managed Country Haven Residential Care Facility for 11 years. She was a member of United Methodist Women and AARP.
Surviving are a daughter-in-law, Mary Lou Morris, of Sedalia; four grandchildren, Nathan A. Morris and wife Amanda M., of Sedalia, Christine L. Engles and husband Jared M., of Rolla, Ryan J. Morris and Timothy L. Morris, both of Sedalia; and two great-grandchildren, Frances Drew Morris and Reese Marie Twenter. She was also preceded in death by her son Rickey S. Morris; a step-daughter, Ara Leone Morris; a brother, Harold V. Romig; and two sisters, Mary VanNatta and Margaret Lane.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, March 10 at McLaughlin Funeral Chapel, with Steve Schilb officiating. Pallbearers will be Nathan Morris, Jared Engles, Ryan Morris, Timothy Morris, Terry VanNatta and John Schwenk. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 9:30 a.m. until service time.
