CW4 Chris Louis Grateke, Jr., 79, of Tebbetts, died Friday, Feb. 10, 2012, at his son’s home. He was born on Oct. 16, 1932, in Kirkwood, a son of Christian Louis and Caroline (Gall) Grateke.
On July 2, 1955 in St. Louis, he was united in marriage to Beverly D. Ary, who preceded him in death on July 9, 2002.
He graduated from the University of Missouri and served his country honorably in the US Army, Korean and Vietnam Wars. Retiring from the Army, he logged 10,000 hours of flight time. He worked at WAFB as a helicopter test pilot. He was an avid carpenter, building 10 homes in his lifetime. He enjoyed flying, woodworking, hunting, cat fishing, and operating and collecting tractors. He loved the Lord, his children, and grandchildren dearly.
He is survived by two children, Linda Mary Gerlt and her husband Manny of Sedalia and Christopher Louis Grateke III and his wife Tina of Tebbetts; one sister, Jane Hurst of Foristell, and his twin brother, George Grateke and his wife Alice of Four Seasons; four grandchildren, one great granddaughter, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents and wife, he was predeceased in death by a son, Timothy Louis Grateke and a daughter, Luanne Barbara Chellis.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 18 at Parkview Christian Church, Sedalia.
Full military honors will be conducted by The Missouri Army National Guard, Warrensburg.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Hospice Compassus in care of Rea Funeral Chapel, Sedalia.
