Pettis County native and Sedalia businessman Jim Marcum announced his intentions to run for Western District Commissioner on Monday morning during a brief press conference outside the Commissioners’ Chambers at the Pettis County Courthouse.

Marcum, who will run on the Republican ticket, said his experience and expertise with road & bridge work, and surface water containment qualifies him for the position.

“I think you have a couple of other good candidates who will be alright, (but) I believe I’m honestly better,” Marcum said after his announcement. “I’ve been in road work 39 years in May. There’s not much that I don’t know about that. I’ve been on school board for over 12 years (Pettis County R-12), I’ve got two successful businesses (Marcum Hauling and Marcum’s Landscaping, I’ve been a part of the Sedalia Economic Development for three years now, and the Pioneer Trails Plannning Commissioner since it started several years ago.”

Marcum said he doesn’t have an agenda, but plans to stay on top of the day-to-day operations at the county level.

He is currently vice president of the Missouri Dump Truck Association. He is ICPI certified for applied Permeable pavement design. As a member of EDSPC and Pioneer Trails, Marcum said he has a vast knowledge of what is needed for the job and the qualifications to get the job done. Marcum intends to take the seat currently held by Larry Wilson, who is not running for reelection.
