CMAC pie auction raises over $24,000

Judging for the eighth annual CMAC (Central Missouri Ag Committee) Pie Contest took place Saturday afternoon, Jan. 28 at the Pork Place on the Missouri State Fairgrounds. The annual Ag Banquet took place Saturday night.

A total of 80 pies were auctioned raise money for agriculture-related scholarships for area youth. Over $24,000 was raised. The pie auction was under the direction of Janice Klenke. Pettis County 4-H Executive Council members took turns displaying the pies to buyers during the auction.

First place winners include Maddy Ash with her Snickers Bar Pie; Megan Evans with her Peanut Butter Pie; Megan Roe with her Pineapple Meringue Pie; and Fay Hunton with her Missouri Peach Pie, which was named Grand Champion by the judges.

Second place winners include: Lauren Yeager, Fay Hunton and Ellie Smith. Third place winners include: Fay Hunton, Sharon Bruner, Jenna Funk and Beth Williams.

The Warner Family was introduced as Farm Family of the Year at the banquet.  Orthopedic surgeon and cowboy poetry reader Dr. Doug Kiburz read aloud three poems at the event, much to the delight of the audience.  About 220 people attended. Photos by Randy Kirby, Sedalia News Journal.
