Deadline for April 3 election filing passes

The certification date for both city and county candidates in the upcoming April 3 elections, was Tuesday, Jan. 24 at 5 p.m.

Below is a list of candidates for the different offices and seats throughout the county. The list was current as of press time, and if any candidates were left out, they will be included on the Sedalia News-Journal’s website at www.sedalianewsjournal.com.

According to Pettis County Chief Deputy Election’s Clerk Terrie Close, “It is going to be a very large ballot. It appears that all the schools and municipalities will be on the ballot along with several county issues.”

The elections listed below are for seats and positions throughout the different communities in Pettis County.

The candidates for the Smithton R-6 school board elections are Nick Gerke, Kevin L. Long, and Misty Hoehns.

Voters will have the option vote for two candidates.

Candidates for the Sweet Springs R-7 school board consists of Cindi Sims, Darla Reid, Marc W. Johnson, and Bruce Hayes. Voters have the option to vote for two candidates.

The Knob Noster R-86 candidates for school board are Jim Hill, Randy Johnson, Denise G. Brown. Rick Vansell, and Kevin Butler.

There are two positions open and voters are allowed to vote for two.

The State Fair Community College Board of Trustees has two positions open and candidates are Judy Parkhurst, Patty Wood, and Jeffrey Redford.

The Sedalia 200 School Board has two seats open in the upcoming election. Jeffrey Redford, Dr. Jeffrey Sharp and Stephanie Lefevers are the candidates for the board positions.

The City of Windsor has only one position open for alderman. They have had one candidate file for the election, John Moorley.

The Village of Hughesville has three positions open for the board of trustees. the candidates are Franklin R. Lindsey, Paul James, John Johnson, Elizabeth Thalgott, and Barbara Parkhurst.

The Hughesville R-5 Board of Directors has openings for two seats. The candidates are Wayne Unkel, John B. Pollitt, Ryan Watterson, Tami Green, Shauna Lea, and Rebecca A. Barnes.

The La Monte Board of Alderman has two positions open. One of them is for a one year unexpired term for Ward 1. The only candidate filing for that position is Wanda Bishop.

There is a two year term alderman position in Ward 1 of La Monte. Ernest Comfort is the only candidate running for that seat. The second Ward in La Monte is a two year term as well and David Wessel is the only candidate on the ballot.

The City of La Monte is also holding elections for the office of mayor and candidate Paul F. H. Wilbern is running unopposed.

Pettis County R-12 (Dresden) election candidates for a seats on the board of education are Gary Griffin, Stephanie Parkhurst, and Gary Hillman. There are two seats available.

Houstonia will hold elections for the position of mayor and two alderman.

The sole candidate for the mayoral race is Ronald J. Poehlmann. The only candidate for the North Ward alderman position is Randy Werneke. The only candidate for the South Ward is Brenda Cramer. These are two year terms.

There are no candidates running for the Pettis County Fire District board.

The City of Green Ridge will be holding an election for the mayor’s office. Ronnie Ollison is the only candidate running.

Green Ridge will also be holding elections for the position of alderman.

The alderman candidates for the two year term are Tom Durrill and Kelly Lamb. People may vote for two candidates in that race.

Jeffrey R. Nilson is running unopposed for a one year unexpired term in the election for alderman of Green Ridge.

The Green Ridge R-8 School Board has two open seats in which to fill. The candidates for the two positions are Kenny Thomas, Tim Dove, Gale Dillon, and Douglas Wirt.

There are two school board positions up for election in the Windsor R-1 school district. The candidates are David L. Neiman, Bo Johnson, and Matt Fosnow.

The Cole Camp R-1 School Board also has two positions open and the candidates are Brian Paul, Marty Doogs, and Christopher Watson.

The list of candidates below are all for offices and seats for the City of Sedalia.

Sedalia City Clerk Arlene Silvey was asked if the size of this election is on par with previous years.

“It is about normal. We have a lot more when we have a mayoral race,” she said.

There is one candidate running for the position of municipal judge. That candidate is Deborah Mitchell.

Council members Stephen J. Galliher, Wanda Monsees, and Wiley Walter are running unopposed for the first, second, and third Ward council seats.

The only council seat that is contested is the seat for the fourth Ward. The candidates include Tolbert (Tollie) Rowe and current council member Pam Carter.
