Bothwell Regional Health Center will begin providing primary health care in Sedalia with the opening of Bothwell Family Health later this month. Located on the second floor of the Bothwell Healing Arts Center at 10th and Winchester, Bothwell Family Health will be staffed by Dr. Catherine Anderson.
Bothwell Family Health and Dr. Anderson will provide preventative health and wellness services and treatment of chronic and acute illnesses for the whole family. She most recently practiced with the Providence/St. John’s Health System in Kansas City, Kan.
“We are excited and pleased to welcome Dr. Anderson on board as a family practitioner,” said John Dawes, Bothwell CEO and president. “We are also happy about providing primary health care in this community because we see this as a real need.”
“The focus of primary care is to keep people healthy or achieve a state of wellness as much as possible,” Dr. Anderson said. “I believe most people really want to achieve a state of health and wellness, so that will be our primary focus. I am looking forward to building my practice in Sedalia.”
Dr. Anderson received her medical degree at the Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences, College of Osteopathic Medicine. She completed her residency at Bay Regional Medical Center Family Practice Residency in Bay City, MI.
Although Bothwell Family Health is the hospital’s first primary care practice in Sedalia, the organization has provided primary care at Bothwell Health Center – Truman Lake in Warsaw and at its Cole Camp Clinic for many years.
“We have many fine physicians in this community, but in many cases, their practices are at capacity and in some cases, the physicians are nearing retirement age,” Dawes said. “We still have many instances where people contact us and are looking for a primary care physician who will take new patients, particularly if they’re on Medicare. We must always plan to meet the community’s needs.”
More physicians are expected to be announced in the coming months, one of which will join Anderson at Bothwell Family Health.
“Bothwell is actively recruiting additional physicians to join Dr. Anderson in the Bothwell Family Health practice,” Dawes said. “We have a signed contract with a second physician who plans to arrive in late spring, so we’ll be making another announcement in the near future. We also expect to announce additional providers in the coming months.”
Pettis County is a federally designated Health Professional Shortage Area, which means it meets the criteria of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services in regards to shortages of primary medical care, as well as dental or mental health providers.
Bothwell Family Health will accept most insurance plans, self-pay and Medicare and Medicaid assignment. Appointments can be made beginning Jan. 23 by calling (660) 827-2500. Dr. Anderson will begin seeing patients Jan. 30.
