Sixteen Boys and Girls Club of West Central Missouri sites participated in the 12th annual National Lights On After School Celebration Thursday afternoon, like the Horace Mann and Skyline Elementary School sites did.
At Horace Mann, Site Director Shannon Harter helped boys and girls increase their sensory perception with guessing games involving touch, smell, sound and taste. Parents were encouraged to participate as well.
More than 15 million school-age children take care of themselves after the school day ends in the US. Afterschool programs keep kids safe, help working families and inspire learning. The Club’s sites in Cole Camp, Green Ridge, La Monte, Leeton, Smithton and Sedalia are supported by funding from the federal 21st Century Community Learning Centers (CCLC) initiative.
At Skyline, Site Director Donal Buckner gathered his fourth graders around a table to witness President Jacob Reynolds sign a proclamation recognizing the Lights On Afterschool program.
