Janet Beaven Campbell, 79, of Sedalia, died Monday, May 30, 2011, at Boone Hospital Center in Columbia.
She was born July 1, 1931, in St. Joseph, to the late James Holt and Elizabeth (Clough) Beaven. On Aug. 15, 1953, in St. Joseph, she married Albert James Campbell, M.D., who survives of the home.
She was raised in St. Joseph and was a 1949 graduate of Central High School, becoming a “Fervent 49er”. She was a 1953 graduate of the University of Missouri in Columbia with a B.A. in education.
She was an active and faithful member of First Christian Church since 1953 and attended the Bethany Sunday School Class. She worked as office manager for her husband’s medical office for many years. Her true vocational passion was serving as a professional volunteer. She was a member and past president of Sorosis, member and past president of Chapter BB, PEO, member and past president of the Pettis County Medical Auxiliary, member and past president of the Missouri State Medical Auxiliary, member and past president of the Southern Medical Auxiliary, member of the Bothwell Hospital Auxiliary, a long-standing board member of State Fair Community College, member of the Ellis Fischel Cancer Center advisory board, member and past president of the Lyceum Theater Board, member and past president of the Heard House board, and past board member of the Scott Joplin Foundation and festival volunteer.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by three children, Elizabeth E. Campbell, M.D., and her husband, Mark Lefebvre, Ph.D., of Raleigh, N.C., Albert James Campbell, III, M.D., of Delaware, OH, and Robert Beaven Campbell, of Sedalia; a sister, Betty Blakeley, and her husband, Edward O. Blakeley, of St. Joseph; a sister-in-law, Nancy Campbell Young, of Hilton Head Island, S.C.; two grandchildren, Avery James Campbell and Aiden Elizabeth Lefebvre, of Raleigh, N.C.; Mark Lefebvre’s daughter, Hilary Lefebvre Perry, of New York City; and five nieces and nephews, Kathryn Schaeffer, of Kansas City, Mo., James Edward Blakeley, of Idaho Falls, ID, Susan Young, of Chicago, IL, Janet Deer, of Paola, KS, and Quentin Young, of Carmel, IN.
Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 2 at McLaughlin Funeral Chapel.
There will be a Celebration of Janet’s Life beginning at 6 p.m. on Friday, June 3, 2011, in the fellowship hall at First Christian Church. A buffet dinner will be served. The sanctuary of the church will be available for private reflection time at 5 p.m.
There will be a private graveside service in Crown Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Fred Schaeffer, Barney Knight, Tom Knight, Steve Bloess, Joe Fischer, representing David Fischer and the Fischer family, and Blake Butler. Honorary pallbearers will be Rick Harvey and Rick Johns.
The family suggests memorial contributions to First Christian Church or the University of Missouri School of Medicine in care of McLaughlin Funeral Chapel.
