Selma Johanna Schumacher, 89, of Cole Camp, died Sunday, May 22, 2011, at Good Samaritan Care Center, Cole Camp. She was born on Jan. 22, 1922, on the family farm near Mora, Missouri, a daughter of Gottfried D. and Bertha Caroline (Zimmerschied) Ehlers.
On Feb. 10, 1945, at Holy Cross Lutheran Church of rural Cole Camp she was united in marriage to Raymond E. Schumacher by Rev. Walter Schroeder.
She spent her entire life in the Mora and Cole Camp areas. She was a faithful member of Trinity Lutheran Church of Cole Camp, where she was a member of the Thursday morning Bible class and a charter member of the Trinity Circle Plan. She worked on the farm and enjoyed baking, reading, sewing, quilting, gardening, planting flowers, and spending time with family and friends.
She is survived by: one daughter, Delores Schumacher of Grandview; one son, Kenneth Schumacher and his wife Patty of Independence; two grandchildren, Kristopher Schumacher and his wife, Kelly, and Kara Schumacher, all of Kansas City; three great-grandchildren, Gretchen, Konrad, and Karolina Schumacher, all of Kansas City; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond on August 17, 1992, her parents, Gottfried and Bertha Ehlers, three sisters, Edna Hobein, Alma Schumacher, and Paula Meyer, and two brothers, Arthur Ehlers and Richard Ehlers.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, May 26 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Cole Camp, with Pastor Todd Kollbaum officiating.
Pallbearers will be Kristopher Schumacher, Josh Brown, Mike Heimsoth, David Carson, Matthew Meyer, and Elroy Schumacher.
Burial will be in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, Cole Camp.
The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until service time on Thursday at the church.
The family suggests memorial contributions be given to Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in care of the Fox Funeral Home, Cole Camp.
