Conscientious, consistent, competent, cooperative. They may not be the same four C’s found in Bothwell Regional Health Center’s mission of serving with compassion, commitment, collaboration and continuous quality improvement; however, these traits have proven to be a winning combination for Unit Secretary Susan Roe.
Roe, of Cole Camp, was named Bothwell Regional Health Center’s Employee of the Year for 2010 during the health center’s annual Employee Service Awards Reception held May 10 at the Bothwell Education Center.
“Susan always offers more than what is expected,” said Sue Kitto, coordinator of Bothwell’s Center for Joint Replacement. “She is a tremendous help with our patient education classes held prior to joint surgery. She has the materials ready, makes confirmation calls, greets and registers patients. Because Susan is so positive and such an excellent role model, she also serves on our Standards of Behavior Committee.”
As a unit secretary in the Orthopedics Department, Roe is responsible for entering physician orders into the hospital’s system for electronic medical records. She also answers the phone, helps visitors and handles other administrative tasks. Roe joined Bothwell in June 1977.
“When I got out of school, I was trying to decide whether I wanted to be a nurse,” she said. “So I came to work here, and I fell in love with what I was doing. I decided then to stay here and keep doing what I’m doing. “
Roe was selected from a field of 11 other Bothwell employees of the month to capture the honor of Employee of the Year. Other employees of the month included: Mark Johnson, Respiratory Therapy; Darlene Self, Bothwell Medical Equipment; Brenda Hunton, 2 North; Sharon Clark, Respiratory Therapy; Maureen McConnell, Physical Therapy, Bothwell Health Center – Truman Lake; Angela Leiter, Progressive Care Unit; Kim Elms, Bothwell Medical Equipment; Patty Hicks, Environmental Services; Mel Cox, Facilities Management; Mary Holloman, Human Resources; and Larry Whipple, Radiology.
