She was born on Oct. 9, 1920, in Sedalia, to Dionysios A. and Katherine D. Giokaris.
Ms. Giokaris was a lifelong resident of Sedalia, attending Broadway School, and graduating from Smith-Cotton High School in 1937. She was an office manager for Metropolitan Life Insurance Company. She also held positions with Donohue Loan and Investment and Parkhurst Manufacturing Co. She was past president of Business and Professional Women’s Club, a member of Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, Kansas City, Mo., and a communicant of Calvary Episcopal Church, Sedalia. Helen enjoyed bowling, traveling, knitting, and spending time with her family.
She is survived by her sister in-law, Virginia R. Giokaris of Sedalia, a niece, Peggy Giokaris of Independence, two nephews, Jim Giokaris of Lee’s Summit, and Alan Giokaris of Mount Kisco, NY, two great nieces, and three great nephews. Helen was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers James D. Giokaris and Michael D. Giokaris, and sister Georgia Giokaris.
Funeral services were held Sunday, May 8, at 3 p.m. at Heckart Funeral Home, with The Rev. Harvel Sanders officiating.
Burial will be Monday in Memorial Park Cemetery.
The family suggests contributions to Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, Calvary Episcopal Church, or the Sedalia School District Foundation, Inc.
